Sunday 4 December 2016: End of year fundraiser

As in previous years, this was held at the Zevenwacht Village clubhouse. This year, however, the event was a little different from our usual spit braai. Instead, there was a buffet lunch consisting of platters of rate roast beef and smoked salmon, accompanied by a wonderful selection of salads, all produced by Philippa of the Oldfield Kitchen (for contact details, see our attached list of Recommended Suppliers). This was followed by meringues, strawberries and ice cream contributed by our members.

After the meal, there was a raffle of items donated by committee members. We were able to raise R4,500.00 as a donation to the Peninsula School Feeding Association. The Director of the organisation, Petrina Pakoe was there to give us an idea of what the PSFA does, and exactly how our money would be spent. Early in the new year we are planning an outing to one of the schools who benefits from this organisation.



A visit the Thrive community project at the Hout Bay Valley Nursery and Farmstall in Valley Road. Bronwen Lankers-Byrne, Director of Thrive, will tell us about the project, which encourages and assists schools to grow vegetables. We will see the growing tunnels used for the vegetable-growing project, and we’ll be able to buy vegetables grown by the schools, as well as other organic produce stocked by the farmstall. After this, we’ll have a shared lunch of Massimo’s delicious pizza, pasta and green salad at his restaurant in the Oakhurst Farm Park, Main Rd, Hout Bay.
